:: last night was incredible! it was everything i needed and more. I was unfiltered and it was amazing to be raw and honest- about nonprofits and anti blackness, the shade, and also the empowering spaces we do have and are being created for us. anyways, happy friday!! thank you @efniksdotcom for having me join the incredible panel for “ When 'POC' is Not Enough: Anti-Blackness in LGBTQ Communities”. We need more conversations like these. Thank you @saychieeef and @yourkinfolkz and @dancinglibrarian and Nia for a needed conversation❤️
:: just another day at the office.
:: thank you @womensfoundationca for having me today! I got to play a Board of Supervisor Board President today for the Women’s Policy Institute Local Policy Fellowship program’s Mock Resolution Hearings ❤️ I was a “moderate” for the sessions which was pretty fun. I could get used to this 😉 #publicpolicy #womeninpolicy #womensfoundationofcalifornia
:: “Aria Sa’id, the youngest of the bunch at 29, elevates the sobering reality that being a trans woman of color is still difficult in other areas of San Francisco, even ones that have been claimed by the larger LGBTQ+ community. “The Tenderloin is probably the only area of the city where trans women are socially accepted, and it’s the only place that we can actually afford to live,” she says. “The Castro has not historically been accepting of trans people, in particular, and it was always sort of designed for wealthy, gay white people, so the Tenderloin is the antithesis of it. I had $60 in my purse, took the Greyhound bus, and was dropped off at the Caltrain station. All of us end up in the Tenderloin.” | @outmagazine ‘s March 2019 issue celebrating #womenshistorymonth | LINK IN BIO

:: “Until and unless you know that you are enough just the way you are, you will always be driven to look for more. Knowing that you are enough is a function of consciousness. Your enough-ness develops in direct proportion to the relationship you have with your true identity. Until you wholeheartedly believe in your own worth, in spite your of accomplishments and possessions, there will be a void in your Spirit. I had more than a void. I had a gaping hole that no amount of achievement, money, or acknowledgment could fill. I’m not good enough, and I will never be good enough to deserve this kind of attention.” - Iyanla Vanzant **** My year with the Human Rights Commission was my Eat Pray Love year during my Saturn return. At 28, I got to be the first Black transgender woman appointed in a policy role within city government. I also got to create meaningful work that was intersectional. I got to work in a space where I didn’t have to always be the token. I got to be mentored by women of color in leadership- something that rarely exists in San Francisco- especially government. I got to work with POC people all day long and it was liberating. I got to fly around the world. I got clarity on my purpose when I was running away from it, and encouragement from my peers. I got to learn how to do policy in other areas beyond LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 work- and i got to learn about the experiences of so many different communities in San Francisco. My experience at HRC broadened my horizon and simultaneously in my personal life, begin to develop my own self-worth- something I never truly faced until this past year. Thank you SFHRC for grounding me, and reinvigorating me to do the next phase of advocacy. **** 📷: @pconnpie (first few photos)
